The ingredients needed to make Half-fried Tempeh (MENDOAN TEMPE):
  1. Prepare 500 gr tempeh (10 pieces of tempeh), thinly sliced into wide pieces
  2. Get 3 scallions, thinly sliced
  3. Prepare 1 egg
  4. Prepare 250 gr flour (low protein)
  5. Get 50 gr rice flour
  6. Take 1 tbsp tapioca flour
  7. Make ready 30 ml thick coconut milk
  8. Prepare 350 ml water
  9. Prepare The oil for frying
  10. Take GROUND SPICES
  11. Take 4 cloves garlic
  12. Make ready 2 pcs shallots
  13. Make ready 1 tsp coriander, toasted
  14. Prepare 1 cm kencur
  15. Make ready 1/4 tsp broth powder (chicken flavor)
  16. Take 1/2 tsp pepper
  17. Get 1 1/2 tsp salt
  18. Get SOY SAUCE (mix)
  19. Take 5 tbsp (75 ml) soy sauce
  20. Make ready 1 clove garlic (crushed)
  21. Prepare 7 red chilis, thinly sliced
  22. Prepare 1 pinch salt (to taste)

Fry tempeh in hot oil for awhile, just until the batter cooked through. Lift tempeh from the wok before the batter become dries & crispy; drain them. Wrap tempeh with banana leaf for awhile while they are still piping hot. The leaf will impart a subtle flavor/aroma to the tempeh.

Instructions to make Half-fried Tempeh (MENDOAN TEMPE):
  1. Mix all the ingredients for soy sauce, mix well and set aside.
  2. Stir flour (wheat + rice + tapioca), water and ground spices. Add beaten egg, scallions and coconut milk.
  3. Dip tempeh in batter, fry until half-dry (still white - no need to fry until crispy). Remove and drain.
  4. Serve with soy sauce.
