The ingredients needed to make Red Hot Squid:
  1. Get 1 bowl Squid (see pic)
  2. Take Ingredient A - blend:
  3. Take 1/2 Big brown/Yellow Onion
  4. Get 1/2 Big Red Onion
  5. Get 1/2 C dried Chillies (cut & soaked)
  6. Get 2 Big Red Chillies
  7. Get 3 Garlic
  8. Make ready Ingredient B
  9. Prepare 1/2 C cooking oil
  10. Make ready 1/2 Big Yellow Onion - cut/sliced
  11. Get 2 tbsp tamarind juice (or 1 tsp paste) i used tamarind peel/slic
  12. Make ready To taste - Chicken seasoning powder - i use 1 tsp
  13. Get To taste - sugar - i used 1 tsp
  14. Take To taste - salt - if needed

Steps to make Red Hot Squid:
  1. Prepare all ingredients. Note: adjust chillies accordingly. Add more for those who love it spicy.
  2. Over medium heat, preheat cooking oil. Add blended ingredients until translucent & aromatic. Add tamarind peel and keep stirring until paste separates from oil. Very important step in cooking this type of dish (in many malaysian dishes)
  3. Add 1tsp of chicken powder seasoning (or to taste) & 1tsp of sugar (or to taste later). Mix well then add squid & sliced yellow onion (see pic). Keep stirring over medium heat until lightly dried and squid well cooked.
